Nobody knows the exact roots of the Scottish Highland Games tradition, however history shows that physical tests of strength have been an integral part of Scottish culture through the ages. On various dates throughout the year, such as St Michaels Day (29 Sep) and at military gatherings and fairs people would often gather to compete in sporting, musical and even literary events. The games as we know them today date from the 1820's, at a time when the Celtic culture was much admired, and the Scottish games we enjoy today are little changed since this time. As Scots have moved across the globe they have taken the tradition with them, and we're proud to see that Highland Games are now a popular event across the world!
